Partners and Families
Westcott House welcomes the partners and families of ordinands as members of the Westcott community. Some families live on-site in purpose-built accommodation. Others choose to 'live out' nearby in Cambridge, with the ordinand making a short commute to the House each day. Yet other ordinands undertake a weekly commute, with partners supporting from afar.
Whatever your domestic circumstances, partners are welcome to take as full a part as they wish in the life of the community, whether this be worship in Chapel, assisting as a server or reader, or simply to enjoy the social activities and the beautiful grounds. Partners and children are also welcome to join in with community meals at any time.
Partners can also attend – free of charge – many of the lectures in the University that may be of interest to them, so you can sit alongside the ordinands while they study.
Children are welcome to play in the recreation area in the grounds and the community's principal weekly Eucharist has an all-age ethos at least once a term. At other times the main Eucharist has a specially dedicated children's group.
Being the partner of an ordinand can sometimes be challenging and hence all partners are supported by the two Partners' Representatives who are always available to give advice as well as to raise matters of interest to partners with the governing body. These two representatives are chosen each year from the student body and partners, with all partners having a free vote.
For details of the Partners' Representatives, as well as the Partners' Handbook – issued to all partners before they arrive at Westcott House – please click on the link below. This will give you a fuller flavour of the life of a partner of a Westcott House ordinand.
The Partners' Handbook can be found here. This Handbook should be read in conjunction with Westcott House’s two COVID-19 documents: Life Together in COVID-19 and COVID-19 Community Compact and Core Messages. Please check for new COVID-19 updates.
