Preparing for Christmas
Wednesday 18th October 2017: 10.00am - 4.00pm
A day to prepare for Advent and Christmas 2017. There will be time to reflect again on the meaning of the Incarnation and how we share the joyful heart of the Christmas message with all ages. An opportunity to think about bold ways of preaching Christmas (carols services, school, Midnight Mass, Christmas Day), and how we can engage the wider community in this amazing story through e.g. Christmas cards, posters, street evangelisation/outreach, social action. And hopefully, preparing ourselves to celebrate Christ's birth without burning out!
There will be some suggested reading to help prepare for preaching and traching.
Two optional workshops:
1) Getting Ready for Baby Jesus:
An introduction to the Diddy Disciples Advent, Christmas & Epiphany materials.
Worshipping with babies, toddlers, and young children (including KS1)
2) Wake up and smell the coffee, Jesus is coming!
Advent for Teenagers and adults: encouraging spiritual engagement at a busy time of year
The Revd Dr Sharon Moughtin-Mumby and Father Andrew Moughtin-Mumby
Sharon is a biblical scholar, priest and author of Diddy Disciples, a new liturgical and biblical resources for babies, toddlers and young children. Her academic area is the Hebrew Bible, and metaphorical language in particular. She published her DPhil thesis as an OUP monograph, and now she enjoys working with very young children while maintaining her academic research for grown-ups. At St Peter's, Walworth she has developed Diddy Disciples on Sundays in church, and Tuesdays for EYFS and KS1 in the local primary school, as well as creating an ever-growing, ever-more interactive Christmas Eve Crib Service.
Andrew is a Rector of St Peter's, Walworth in the Diocese of Southwark and Area Dean and he loves Christmas! Over the last few years they have spent time trying to engage with more and more people at a deeper level through Christmas communications, more engaging Christmas services, and work with their school, children and young people and adults on keeping a spiritual journey through Advent. He is looking forward to sharing what they have been doing, and hopefully nicking a few ideas from other people, too.
This study day costs £35 inclusive of lunch and refreshments.
