Revd Dr Muthuraj Swamy
Muthuraj Swamy is a trustee of Westcott House. He is the Director of the Cambridge Centre for Christianity Worldwide, and Project Manager for Theological Education for Mission in the Anglican Communion, London. Coming from the Church of South India, he was ordained in the Church of England, Diocese Ely, and currently is Associate Priest at St John the Evangelist, Hills Road, Cambridge.
Muthuraj studied at the United Theological College, Bangalore, and did his PhD research in the area of interreligious dialogue at the University of Edinburgh. He has worked with interreligious organisations, promoting conflict resolution and peace building programs, and served as theological educator in India for many years before moving to Cambridge in 2018.
His research interests include ecumenism, religion-secular relations, science and faith, public/political theologies, reconciliation and peacebuilding. His published works include The Problem with Interreligious Dialogue: Religion, Conflict, and Elitism in Hindu-Christian-Muslim Relations (Bloomsbury 2016), and Reconciliation: The Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lent Book 2019 (SPCK). He co-edited three volumes written by global Anglican and ecumenical theologians, Walking Together (Reconciliation), Witnessing Together (Evangelism and witness), and Listening Together (Prayer), as part of Anglican bishops worldwide preparing for the Lambeth Conference 2022.
