Rachel is the Vice Principal of Westcott House. Working closely with the Principal in the leadership of the College, Rachel oversees Safeguarding and all aspects of the admissions process enabling prospective students to discern how Westcott House might help their vocations flourish. As the Designated Lead for Safeguarding, Rachel encourages good safeguarding practice in the life of the College and in the formation of ordinands for their future public ministry. Rachel also holds a key role in shaping the future of the college site, particularly the accessibility of the College and Westcott’s transition to Net Zero. She is an ex officio member of Westcott Council and serves as a member of the Standing and Finance sub-committees.

Following ordination training at St John’s College, Nottingham, Rachel spent fifteen years in parish ministry in the Dioceses of Gloucester and Ely. Prior to Westcott, Rachel was the Vicar of Grantchester and Newnham in Cambridge and Rural Dean of Cambridge South Deanery where she held the additional roles of Vocations Advisor and ADDO. Alongside her parish role, Rachel served as honorary Chaplain at Wolfson College, Cambridge and was a pastoral tutor at Ridley Hall.

During her time in Gloucester, Rachel was Link Officer for the diocesan partnership with the Diocese of El Camino Real, California as part of a three-way link between Gloucester, El Camino Real, and Western Tanganyika (Tanzania). In 2014 when Rachel was awarded an MA in Theology from Chester University, her MTh dissertation focused on this diocesan partnership – reflecting theologically on how three very different dioceses can remain united and walk together amidst disagreement and division.

Rachel’s other research interests include preaching, culture and Christianity, imaginative and good use of historic church buildings, ministerial formation, and making connections between faith and everyday life. She has written occasionally for Cotswold Homes and the Preacher magazines, and previously featured on BBC Radio Gloucester to regularly review the weekly news. Outside of work, Rachel enjoys birdwatching, cooking and pub quizzes.
